Why Medmate Has Gone 24/7: Because Healthcare Shouldn’t Wait
At Medmate, our mission has always been clear: make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and patient-centred. Over the past few years, we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of Australians get timely care when they’ve needed it most — whether that’s a consult for a sick child in the evening, a script refill on a Sunday, or help managing chronic conditions without the long wait times.
But we’ve also been listening closely.
From cities to remote regions, a common need has emerged: Australians want and deserve healthcare that doesn’t clock off at 5pm.
What We’ve Seen Across Australia
Across the country, access to care remains a growing challenge — particularly after hours, on weekends, and in rural and regional areas. We’ve seen:
Long GP wait times in metro areas
A lack of available appointments after hours
Patients unable to get care due to work or family schedules
Overloaded emergency departments for non-urgent issues
Rural communities with few or no doctors available
This isn’t just inconvenient — it can have serious impacts on health and wellbeing. And we knew we could do more to help.
Why We’re Now Open 24/7
We’ve officially transitioned Medmate to a 24/7 telehealth service — because real life doesn’t stick to business hours, and neither should your healthcare.
Whether it’s 7am or midnight, Australians can now speak with a qualified, AHPRA-registered doctor via phone or video, usually within 15 minutes. From medical certificates to prescription refills to acute care advice, we’re here around the clock.
This change also allows us to:
Support busy families who can’t attend daytime appointments
Relieve pressure on emergency departments and after-hours clinics
Better serve rural and remote communities
Provide care continuity for chronic conditions and repeat scripts
Be a safety net for those who need help, any time, day or night
A Word from Our Medical Director
“After decades working as a GP, including in rural and regional Australia, I’ve seen firsthand the frustration and risks that come from delayed access to care. Medmate’s move to 24/7 isn’t just about convenience — it’s about making sure every Australian has access to timely, safe medical advice, no matter where they live or what time it is.”
— Dr. Ganesh Naidoo, Medical Director, Medmate
Our Commitment to You
We believe that accessible healthcare is a right — not a luxury. By offering 24/7 access to care, we’re proud to support Australians when and where it matters most.
Whether it’s for you, your child, your elderly parent, or a loved one living remotely — Medmate is here, 24/7.
